Hatboro-Horsham 2019
On February 19th, Team 2539 completed the 2019 FIRST Launch Destination Deep Space robot, and then launched into the competition season. The Team has recently competed in the Hatboro Horsham district competition, and placed second overall, along with a very close final match.
The Krypton Cougars also had a fully dedicated scouting Team this year, who were designated a job of, and did a marvelous job, of deciphering robotic systems of 34 other teams. They worked hard, and it paid off, as they had multiple successful scouting meeting. Other aspects of their Team also paid off, like the controversial decision of the mecanum drivetrain.
The district competition certainly went in favor of the Krypton Cougars. After going 10-1-1 in qualifications, the Krypton Cougars advanced as the #1 seed for finals. As 1st Alliance Captain they chose a comparable Bot to theirs in 1807, Redbird Robotics, and a defensive robot in 2559, Normality 0. Quarterfinals went smoothly with 2 victories, but the semifinals were another story. Winning the 1st match, they were all set to move up, but with some tough defense against them in match 2 and then the horrific happened. When climbing to Level 3 for the 16th straight time, they fell backwards off the high platform into a crushing defeat. But their tough robot and pit crew got up and dusted itself off, and with some great driving, put up our highest score of the competition in an 81-72 victory to move into the Finals. The 1st match, their alliance partners were beat up with tough defense and mechanical failures and lost. But with some quick pit work and skillful driving came back to win Match #2 and send the Finals to a Tiebreaker.

The atmosphere was electric - teams cheering, ranting on the 25-39 chant. Defense was still tough and with another knocked out robot, we came up a bit short and lost 61-69. Ironically, this was the same result they had 2 years ago at Hatboro in Steamworks. Still, it was a fantastic performance, and something to be very proud of.
They did not leave Hatboro empty handed though. After winning the Control Innovation Award for their fantastic Dashboard, they had earned 63 District Ranking points, which guarantees the Krypton Cougars a place at the District Championships at Lehigh April 3-6! Although they came in second, FIRST Mid-Atlantic knows who the Krypton Cougars are! |
