On Team 2539, engineering plays a large role in being the amazing Team we are. From our drive base plates, to small bumper brackets, at the beginning of the build season, we design our robot. This can be challenging in multiple aspects. It requires good math and physics skills, but when we work together, we get much done. Engineering's definition is: "The branch of science and technology concerned with the design, building, and use of engines, machines, and structures". FIRST is a fantastic way of teaching engineering because all of these skills are used in building robots. Some examples on the Krypton Cougars are:
Drive-Base for Power-Up: We designed and ordered the drive base plates for this robot in less than three days, because of our excellent understanding of the game and what exactly we needed. It is one of our best parts on the robot.
Iron Cross Mechanism: Power-Up: Our hook took weeks to fully design and create. We also used a key tool in engineering - prototypes. We compared and contrasted certain designs, and finally, decided on an extended rim.
